STORY LINE
When a pro surfer whom Don knew as a kid is killed in a supposed surfing accident, the surfer’s father asks Alan and the Numbers team to launch an investigation…

[KEITH WATTS]
In his mid 60s to mid 70s, sad, with some mileage on his face, he is the father of Mason, who appears to have died in a surfing accident. Keith and Alan go way back, and are able to confide in one another about their complex feelings regarding their sons. Keith insists that Mason wasn’t a daredevil with a death wish, and asks Don to look into foul play as a possibility. Keith fears that his divorce or his other supposed failings as a father may have somehow contributed to Mason’s death…GUEST STAR (3)

In his early to late 30s, he is a Park Service Ranger and surfer who knew Mason, the murder victim, fairly well. Wilson tells David that Mason was an extremely serious ranger known for his strict adherence to the rules, and that he busted people who perhaps shouldn’t have been busted. [MASON WATTS]
In his early 30s to mid 40s, he is the murder victim, seen mostly on an FBI screen during a film interview. Mason is a handsome, ruggedly athletic, at times morally superior, purist surfer and Park Ranger who knew Don when they were kids. A famous surfer who was once afraid of the water, he caused a stir in the surfing world when he cast off his sponsors and went into seclusion. He believes surfing is a spiritual endeavor, and he won’t abide rule-breakers on his turf. His penchant for arresting people as a Park Ranger earned him more than a few enemies…GUEST STAR (2)

[MELISSA CONROY]
Mason’s slightly rude and dismissive ex-girlfriend, in her mid 20s to early 30s, she’s a strikingly attractive surfing instructor and part-time bikini model. She is questioned by Don and tells him that she and Mason dated for a few years but broke up recently when it became clear that Mason’s interest in surfing would never lead to a comfortable lifestyle. As the investigation continues, Melissa’s bitterness toward Mason and his inflexibility is revealed…GUEST STAR (12)

Synopsis

When eight people, including two police officers, are executed in a coffee shop, an LAPD detective gets the team on the case, and they uncover a trail of blackmail, romance and corruption. Also, McGowan’s investigation of Charlie and Don deepens.

A promotional video for the next episode of “Numb3rs” has arrived. Teasing what to expect in the episode 5.02, “Decoy Effect”, the footage focuses on the case the FBI team are trying to solve. Still, the stake is put even higher when a kidnapped woman is shot to death while trying to run away after being forced to withdraw a number of money out of an ATM.

The October 10 episode puts the team in a new case when they have to investigate a pattern of increased ATM kidnappings. But, when one of the abducted women is murdered, they desperately need to find the mastermind behind the kidnapping before another victim falls. Running out of choice and time, the team resort to the using of decoy.

Meanwhile, Charlie will face Carl McGowan, the FBI investigator who will determine his FBI security clearance’s fate. The series features the likes of David Krumholtz, Rob Morrow, Judd Hirsch, Alimi Ballard and Sophina Brown among others with Keith Carradine serving as McGowan.

Skeet and Pete, a pair of rock climbers, find the murdered bodies of two other climbers and Don and his team are called out to investigate. Skeet and Pete tell Colby and David that the victims had mentioned finding something that they believed they could sell, but didn’t tell them what it was, just that it might have had bad karma. The investigation leads them to a shipment of diamonds that was stolen and another man that has been killed.

SOPHINA BROWN JOINS THE CAST OF “NUMB3RS” AS A SERIES REGULAR

Fifth Season of the Hit CBS Drama Series to Premiere Friday, Oct. 3

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 20 - Sophina Brown will join the cast of NUMB3RS as a series regular this season. NUMB3RS has its fifth season premiere Friday, Oct. 3 (10:00-11:00 PM/ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

Brown will play the team’s newest agent, Nikki Betancourt, a tough, street-smart ex-LAPD officer and full-blown adrenaline junkie who got her law degree at night school. Nikki may be new to the team, but she’s not a rookie, and her method of handling cases won’t always mesh with how Don (Rob Morrow) likes to run his team.

Brown was most recently seen in the role of Raina Troy on the CBS drama series “Shark.” One of her other television credits also includes a previous guest starring role on NUMB3RS. Brown’s other small-screen credits include a recurring role in “Chappelle’s Show” and guest-starring roles in the CBS series “Without a Trace,” “Hack,” “The Education of Max Bickford” and the daytime drama “As the World Turns.” She has also guest-starred in “Law & Order,” “Law & Order: SVU,” “Strangers with Candy” and “Twins.” Among Brown’s theater credits are the role of Nala in the Broadway production of “The Lion King,” the role of Carmen in the national tour of “Fame — The Musical” and roles in regional productions of “Jesus Christ Superstar,” “As You Like It” and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Her feature film credits include “Because I Said So.”
